Microsoft’s surprise announcement of the Xbox Series X at the Game Awards 2019 came with our first look at the console. It looks pretty sleek, but we’re all interested in the backside. You know what I’m talking about: those sweet, sweet ports.
Thanks to NeoGAF user Curry Panda, we finally have our first look at the ports on the back of the prototype system. This also serves as our first look at an official Xbox Series X dev kit! Let’s see what these ports reveal about the upcoming system.
Breaking Down The Ports on Xbox One Series X
Looking at the photos, we can take stock of the ports. There are two USB-A ports, an optical audio slot, an Ethernet port, and curiously, just one HDMI port. The last one is for the power cable.
The other mystery port you see in the image is actually for diagnostic reporting, so that’s something exclusive to the dev kit. One other thing to mention is the fact that the serial number is shown in this image.
Microsoft can use this to track down exactly who took and leaked this photo. A moment of silence for this person who is absolutely going to get in a lot of trouble, if you will…
Right, now that we’re finished with that, let’s also consider that this is a development kit. As a result, the final design could have additional ports (or less) that were unaware of. With the console launching officially in the holiday of 2020, we won’t have to wait too long to find out.
Thankfully, Microsoft also confirmed that they will be attending E3 2020, despite Sony once again backing out. I assume we’ll have a full reveal of Xbox Series X at that time.
Let us know if these were the ports you were expecting in the comments!
