Xbox Two is Coming, There's No More Doubt

Xbox 2 confirmed

Phil Spencer, head of Micorosft's Xbox division, has finally given us the Xbox 2 confirmation we all want to hear! It's no secret that the Xbox One has a rough start. Part of it was the muddled focus on too many things at once, and part of it was a lack of games that really sold the console. Sony has been leading the way forward ever since, almost doubling Microsoft's sales. These facts haven't stopped the current Xbox Boss, Phil Spencer, from staying optimistic. Microsoft has been investing hundreds of millions of dollars into turning Windows customers into Xbox customers.

The goal? Win back the gamers. Microsoft has been struggling to get everyone back in their good graces since the release of the Xbox One. It's truth that Microsoft should have done thing's differently, but there's no time for regret now. Instead, Phil Spencer is pushing the team forward, trying to put Xbox One back in the limelight.

During an interview with The Verge, Phil Spencer started talking, and that's when the beans were truly spilled. The Verge made a very good point about how smart devices are quickly becoming the all-in-one tools for consumers.

They posed the perfect question: does this mean that Xbox will fade into obscurity? Will it become a service, an app, or simply a brand instead of a go to destination for gaming? Phil took the question in stride:

"No," Spencer said, "I fully expect that you'll see another console from us. Our best customers are Xbox console customers, and I want to keep those people engaged both on the Xbox One and anything we might do in the future. I'm 100 percent committed to that"

Whoa...

You read that, right? Wait a second, I'm getting Deja' Vu here. Didn't we report on something similar to this when the former Xbox Boss Robbie Bach said he thought there would be a next generation?Oh yeah, we did...

Spencer went on to say that he doesn't "want to dilute what the Xbox console customer feels, I want to expand what we're able to do for more customers." Speaking of expanding, remember how Microsoft is focusing on turning Windows customers into Xbox ones?

Part of this initiative is making Windows 10 run on Xbox One, which is already happening. I respect Phil Spencer for not giving up in the face of what's been happening to the Xbox One. The system is already making great strides in the right direction, and as I've said before, this console will be a testing ground for the next one.

Here's a question though: why was Phil so forward with his response? Normally you would expect a corporate executive to simply say "we'll see," but instead he confirmed that Microsoft is planning another Xbox. He wouldn't have said this on accident, which could mean one of two things:

  • He wants you to know that Xbox is down, but not out.
  • Microsoft is already working on the Xbox Two.
  • Both are likely possible, and if Phil is talking about a next generation now, that means that we may have even more information sooner than we expect. With new technology like the HoloLens coming down the pipeline, one has to wonder how Microsoft plans to take the Xbox One into the future, and ultimately how these new innovations will affect the next generation of consoles.

    When is it Releasing?

I love being right, but then again, who doesn't? Now that Phil Spencer has confirmed his intention to see an Xbox Two release, you're probably wondering when it will be here. Not to worry friends, we've been hard at work on that for some time. If your the reading type, I recommend you check out our release date article

    No Xbox 2?

Since Microsoft has recently announced it plans to roll the Xbox platform into Windows and do away with the dedicated hardware line, it seems there will be no more Microsoft Xbox branded hardware. Instead, it looks like they plan to let PC manufacturers make PCs that are Xbox compatible instead. So much for the Xbox 2. Though, it's probably even worse than this. Xbox as a Windows component is certain death for the platform. What developer in their right mind would develop the same game twice both destined for the same hardware system, but supporting two entirely different components? They wouldn't, especially considering the excessive Xbox licensing costs a dev must pay to stamp that XBox logo on a game. Windows gaming will boom, Xbox games will die. Oh, well. It was a nice platform while it lasted. Somehow, I don't think Microsoft thought this through very well.

    XBox Project Scorpio

The XBox Project Scorpio is just a mere XBox One, but with teraflops and all those good things we all want, it's just a XBox One.
